If you are a START Key power user, you may have had trouble getting messages through the desk accessory pipeline to other programs. To fix the problem, remove the line
the_appl=0;
which is located inside the first if statement of the procedure
scnd_message().
When recompiling the program, be sure to include the header files on the Winter START disk.

Is the computer giving you grief when you try to run LaserBase? (START, Winter 1987.) Switch to low resolution before running the program and you'll be firing those lasers in no time.
